Božić je poseban dan za krčanstvo rođenje Isusa Krista spasitelja neba i zemlje, sina Boga Jahve.
Isusovo rođenje opisano je u Evanđeljima po Luki i Mateju. U ostala dva Evanđelja se ne spominje. U Starome zavjetu proroci su navijestili rođenje Mesije, koji će otkupiti ljude od grijeha. Novi zavjet donosi ispunjenje proročanstva. Isusa, Božjeg Sina, rodila je Djevica Marija, uz pomoć svoga zaručnika Josipa u gradu Betlehemu. Oko devet mjeseci prije, začela ga je po Duhu Svetome.
Car August zapovijedio je popisivanje stanovništva. Josip i trudna Marija krenuli su na put iz njihovog grada Nazareta u Betlehem, gdje je bio popis stanovništva za njih, jer je Josip bio iz roda kralja Davida. Zbog gužvi nisu mogli naći mjesto u svratištima te su na posljetku završili u staji, okruženi domaćim životinjama, gdje se Isus rodio.
Anđeli su pastirima dojavili vijest o Isusovu rođenju te su prvi vidjeli dijete. Poslije je zvijezda repatica dovela sveta tri kralja do Isusa. Pastiri su predstavnici puka, a sveta tri kralja plemstva, jer se Isus rodio za sve ljude.
Većina kršćanskih crkvi slavi ga 25. prosinca. Međutim, neke istočne crkve slave ga 7. siječnja, jer po Julijanskom kalendaru 25. prosinca pada na taj dan. Božić je u mnogim državama svijeta tako i u Hrvatskoj, državni blagdan.
Božić spada, zajedno s Uskrsom i Duhovima, među tri najveća kršćanska blagdana. Božićno vrijeme traje od Božića pa do blagdana Krštenja Gospodinova, a to je uvijek nedjelja iza Sveta tri kralja
Sveta tri kralja su u kršćanskoj tradiciji kraljevi ili mudraci, koji su se, prema evanđelju, došli pokloniti Isusu nakon rođenja. Često se zovu Baltazar, Melkior i Gašpar; u Bibliji se ne navode imena.Prema Evanđelju po Mateju, došli su s istoka (Partsko Carstvo) u Jeruzalem, kako bi se poklonili Isusu. Pratili su betlehemsku zvijezdu.
U Jeruzalemu, primio ih je kralj Herod, koji ih je želio prevariti, s ciljem da mu kažu, gdje se Isus rodio, tako da ga može ubiti. Kada su pronašli Isusa, darovali su mu tri dara: tamjan (kao Bogu), zlato (kao kralju) i plemenitu mast, smirnu (kao čovjeku). Potom im Bog zapovijedi da se ne vraćaju Herodu i vrate se drugim putem u svoju zemlju. Tri kralja su predstavnici poganskih naroda, koje je Bog pozvao u svoje kraljevstvo, time što im je javio rođenje Spasitelja.
Hrvatski božićni običaji dio su hrvatske tradicije. Uz slavlje Božića razvili su se brojni običaji t kićenja božićnog drvca na Badnjak, odlaska na misu polnoćku, pjevanja božićnih pjesama i darivanja. Prije Božića, vrijeme je priprave, koje traje oko mjesec dana od početka došašća. Predvladavaju osjećaji iščekivanja, nade i čežnje. Posebno se obilježavaju dani sv. Barbare, sv. Nikole, sv. Lucije i sv. Tome. Božićna pšenica sije se na sv. Barbaru ili sv. Luciju.
Djeca se posebno raduju sv. Nikoli, kada dobivaju poklone u čizmice, a zločesta djeca šibu od Krampusa. U nekim krajevima postoje običaji djetinjci, materice i očići, koji se događaju u tri tjedna do Božića.
Brojni običaji za cilj imaju želju za blagostanjem, dobrim urodom, napretkom i dobrim zdravljem. Badnjak je bogat raznim običajima t unošenja slame u kuću, svečanog uređenja blagdanskog stola, pripreme božićne hrane i odlaska na sv. misu polnoćku.
Božić je dan, kada se s puno radosti, nade i žara u svečanom, veselom raspoloženju slavi Isusovo rođenje. Proslavlja se u krugu obitelji, a sljedeći dan na dan sv. Stjepana posjećuju se rođaci, prijatelji i susjedi i s njima se svečano proslavlja uz bogatu trpezu.
Na svetog Ivana, narednog dana, blagoslivljalo se vino, a slama se iznosila iz doma i postavljala na voćke, da bi bolje rodile naredne godine. Na dan Nevine dječice, koji je sljedeći dan, čest je običaj tzv. šibanja, kada bi se ljudi lagano udarali vrhovima šiba, obilježavajući bol ubijene dječice. Djeca su se blagoslivljala na misama. Na Novu godinu međusobno bi se čestitalo, ali bi ugođaj bio manje intiman za razliku od božićnog.
I na kraju želim reči kao ste već neki znaju Zagreb, Hrvatski glavni grad proglasen je najljepšom zimskom destinacijom drugi put za r i to u cijeloj Europi, možda je Hrvatska mala zemelja i možda nas malo, ali imamo velika srca i preljepu zemlju koji mnogi sanjaju, što nas neki ljudi mrze to smo sve jači :D
