- The Regions of  Greece

Central Greece

Continental Greece, is a traditional geographic region of Greece. In English the area is usually called Central Greece, but the equivalent Greek term Kentrikí Elláda is more rarely used.
Since 1987, its territory has been divided among the administrative regions of Central Greece and Attica, and the regional unit of Aetolia-Acarnania in the administrative region of West Greece.

Peloponnesos

The Peloponnese or Peloponnesus is a penisula and geographic region in southern Greece. It is separated from the central part of the country by the Gulf of Corinth. During the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman era, the peninsula was known as the Morea.

Crete

Crete is the largest and most lous of the Greek islands, and the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.. Crete and a number of surrounding islands and islets constitute the region of Crete. The capital and the largest city is Heraklion. It was once the center of the Minoan civilization.

Thessaly

Thessaly is a traditional geographic and modern administrative region of Greece, comprising most of the ancient region of the same name. Thessaly was known as Aeolia, and appears thus in Homer's Odyssey.
Thessaly became part of the modern Greek state in 1881, after four and a half centuries of Ottoman rule.

Epirus

Epirus, formally the Epirus Region, is a traditional geographic and modern administrative region  in northwestern Greece. It borders the regions of West Macedonia and Thessaly to the east, West Greece to the south, to Ionian Islands the west and Albania to the north. It is part of the wider historical region of Epirus, which overlaps modern Albania and Greece but lies mostly within Greek territory.

Makedonia

Macedonia is a geographic and historical region of Greece. Macedonia is the largest and second most lous Greek region, dominated by mountains in the interior and the port cities of Thessaloniki (or Salonika) and Kavala on its southern coastline. Macedonia is part of Northwest Greece, together with Thrace and sometimes Thessaly and Epirus.

Thraki

Thrace is a geographic and historical region of Greece, between the Nestos and Evros rivers in the northeast of the country.

Ionian Islands

The Ionian Islands are a group of islands in Greece. They are traditionally called the Heptanese, i.e. "the Seven Islands" , but the group includes many smaller islands as well as the seven principal ones. As a distinct historic region they date to the centuries-long Venetian rule, which preserved them from becoming part of the Ottoman Empire, and created a distinct cultural identity with many Italian influences. The Ionian Islands became part of the modern Greek state in 1864.

Aegean Islands

The Aegean Islands are the group of islands in the Aegean Sea, with mainland Greece to the west and north and Turkey to the east; the island of Crete delimits the sea to the south, those of Rhodes, Karpathos and Kasos to the southeast. The ancient Greek name of the Aegean Sea, Archipelago was later applied to the islands it contains and is now used more generally, to refer to any island group.

Cyprus ( Greco-Cypriot Territory)

Cyprus, officially the Republic of Cyprus , is an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, off the coasts of Syria and Turkey. Cyprus is the third largest and third most lous island in the Mediterranean located south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, northwest of Israel, north of Egypt and southeast of Greece.
