MOKOŠA AUTUMN
The last Friday in the month of forest fall (October) is the festival of the goddess Mokoša or Mokoša Jesenja, this year 7530(2022) it is 28.10. Apart from the autumn one, there is also a spring holiday dedicated to the goddess, that is Mokoša Prolećna.
Mokoš or Mokoša is the goddess of fertility, the protector of women and women's affairs. Mokoša is a goddess who can determine the fate of people with her dishes.
In "Nestor's Chronicle" there is a mention of the statue of the goddess Mokosha, which was erected by Prince Vladimir on the hill above Kiev. Mokosha was the only female deity of the Kievan pantheon. Next to the statue of Mokoša on the same hill were the statues of Perun, Horsa, Dažboga (Dajboga), Striboga and Simargla.
The goddess Mokoša is represented in several ways: as a tall woman with lush breasts and untangled hair, as a woman with a big head and long arms or simply as an elderly woman. Similar to Živa, Mokoša helps women in labor, protects children, but also helps women maintain a good marriage. Spinning is an area inextricably linked to this goddess. Many customs are related to Mokoša as the protector of the countryside.
In the past, women threw tow (hemp fibers) into the water, they called it "mokrica" and it was a sacrifice to Mokosha. This custom was mostly related to the holiday of Mokoša Jesenja because it is the period of hemp harvesting.
Recent research indicates that the name of the goddess is derived from the word "mokro". Mokoša also connects with the earth, especially with wet moist earth. There is a spring festival dedicated to this goddess and it is considered bad to dig or poke the ground with a tool or any object on that day. It is also bad to pull gr, because it was believed that this is how Mokosha's hair is pulled. We know that Mokoša has a function similar to judges. Since it is connected to the spindle and the horsetail, this Mokoša's activity also extends to some higher, cosmic plane. It then becomes the activity of a goddess who can determine human des and cut the short or long threads of a person's life.
About a hundred years ago, it was believed that Mokoša visits houses and oversees the fields, rewarding the good and hardworking, while punishing the lazy.
It was also respected by the West Slavic tribes, and judging by the preserved toponyms and folk beliefs, it is also known in our regions. Toponyms ociated with Mokoša are very common: Mokošica (a settlement near Dubrovnik), Mokošica, Makoše (near Trebinje), Makoše (place in Ribnica region, Slovenia), Srednja Makoška, Daljna Makoška (Kratovsk region, Macedonia), etc. Among the Slovenians, there is a story about the sorceress Mokoška, which is directly related to the goddess Mokoška and probably a much older story. Belief in Mokoša was so strong that it persisted even after the reception after the reception of Christianity. Many centuries after the collapse of our old faith, it is recorded that Christian priests asked professing girls if they had prayed to Mokoshi. It is also considered that Mokoš has a function similar to that of female judges (judges, mothers, mothers). Since she is tied to the spindle and the horsetail, it is umed that Mokoša's activity extends to some higher, cosmic plane as the activity of a goddess who determines human des and cuts the short or long threads of a person's life. Along with Svarog, Mokoš is responsible for the creation of the first humans and is thus ociated with the "white bee", the female mythical ancestor of all Slavs. Besides the bee, a sheep is ociated with the goddess Mokoš, and it is also believed that linden, flax and hemp are Mokoš's plants.贊助
