The Festejo is a Peruvian dance with African roots, representative of the Peruvian miscegenation practiced on the central coast, in force in Lima and Ica, especially in Canete and Chincha.
This dance has its origin in the 17th century, thanks to the Africans who arrived in the country, who did not hesitate to share their rhythms with the Peruvian inhabitants of that time. What we know today as a celebration is a happy rhythm that develops as a challenge or courtship.
