Date of inscription 1986, an UNESCO heritage.
The Škocjan Caves Regional Park is situated in the Villages of Škocjan pri Divaci, Matavun and Betanja, Communes of Divaca and Sežana, Region of Obalno-kraška.
The heritage located in the Kras region ( Karst ), it is one of famous in the world study of karstic phenomena.
The Kras Plateau located of South-West of Slovenia.
The area has 413 hectares.
There are a system of limostone caves, collapsed dolines, some 6 kilometers of underground pages of more 200 m.
The great underground river canyons of the Reka River. The Reka digged , along the time, a vast and picturesque channel, 150 meters in heigh and 120 meters in width.
Exist many spectacular waterfalls and a lot chambers inside.
The Martel Chamber is enormous, exceeds two million cubic water meters in volume.
In the caves are many endemic and endangered species , including the Cave Salamander, a lot of invertebrates and crustaceans.
The very particular environment conditions of the collapsed dolines provide a habitate for rare flora and fauna.
